Happy New Year!

New Year's Eve dinner
in Buenos Aires: rib-eye steaks,
champagne, dancing,
$30 cash...

New Year's Day in San Telmo:
empanadas, lemon soda,
street tango, 37 degrees,
priceless...

No hay dias eternos
de dolor y de fracasos
de silencios y despedidas
Cuando la noche llega
y las estrellas reposan
bajo las pupilas
de nuestros sueños

Inflation, interest rates and foreign currency exchange -- thanks to you, Josh Groban

Was the music beginning to stir up some deeply buried emotions? Therefore, did I make the unconscious move to use the other side of my brain more intensively to cope with the onslaught of memories? Why hadn’t Josh evoked some radical religious light-bulb moment like joining the Opus Dei? Or perhaps, to finally accept that John Paul II has moved on, and Benedict XVI now rules?

The Prayer normally brings back images of the tots in the post 9/11 Verizon ad, You Raise Me Up was sang on Oprah’s 40th bash last year, Se might be my wedding march hymn, and You’re Still You and I Let You Go is you-know-who

But for Groban's music to inspire a highly productive moment of lesson planning! And not just lesson planning, but macroeconomics lesson planning! Images: currency signs, percentages, arrows, graphs, curves, and so on and so forth….

Ruben Rada’s Candombe Jazz Live produced sweet baked camote and ginisang monggo ala uruguay; with Rita Lee’s Acoustic I moved the TV to my bedroom, reorganized my deity collection and concocted a yoghurt cream sauce-based spaghetti.

Hmm….now to find out what OPM “Ito ang Trip” will lead to…
Tristan, this one’s for you!

Mientras tanto, quedamos asi... hasta la proxima...

...no soy uruguaya,
ni gallega, ni italiana
... soy asiatica
... soy filipina

winter in july

grey skies, chilly wind, leafless trees...
must do something to break the dullness...
ho-hum... ho-hum...
must do something to break the dullness...
